Hurst Bowling Club win MUL

On Saturday 17th September Hurst (Founded 1747) beat Henley 12-0 to become Manchester Unity League Champions for the first time in their history.  The score line suggests an easy victory but Henley fought hard and two rinks were decided only in the last one or two ends.

Hurst’s season started slowly with three defeats in the first four matches.  Once their form improved they were almost unstoppable, losing just one of the other fourteen matches and winning the rest.  Twenty three of the Club’s regular players appeared in one or more MUL matches and did so with distinction – there cannot be many small clubs with such strength in depth.

Scores v Henley:  (M. Brailey, E. Nutley, E. Taylor 25-10), (R. Walley, J. Alexander, D. Green 15-13), (K. Channa, L. Bowes, E. Bowes 22-14), (J. Carey, S. Hill, A. Boddrell 23-12), (D. Ashley, R. Simpson, J. Boddrell 17-11).
